Josh’s Story:
An Unlikely Farmer

It’s pretty tricky talking about myself so bear with me. I never would have expected that I would end up farming. After studying history and philosophy in college, I found myself looking for direction, purpose and really a meaningful job. My good friend from college, Jean, met some beginning farmers and decided she would volunteer on their farm startup. I came along for the ride. It was one year later that Meadow’s Mirth was born. Jean and I worked together for many years building this little farm. Jean would eventually marry a farmer and move to Downeast Maine where she is still farming today. I have continued with Meadow’s Mirth, and two years ago finally found land to purchase to give the farm, and myself, a permanent home in Brentwood, NH.

Passion is a great way to describe how I farm. Passion for the food, but also passion for the people. Because of this, I have managed farmers markets, co-founded a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (Seacoast Eat Local), co-founded a grass roots organization (Heritage Harvest Project), co-founded a local farm distribution company (Three River Farmer’s Alliance), been a presidential appointee to the Farm Service Agency State Committee, sat on advisory boards, and participated in many events to bring local farm food to the food insecure. Feeding people is my passion. My latest project, the Weekly Veggie Box, is the culmination of all of my experience. Efficiently delivering food from local farms and leveraging donation to the food insecure.
